Electro-optical (EO) imaging collects pictures in visible and infrared light: the most intuitive and widely used form of overhead imagery, and the foundation sensor of most national observation programmes. Its limits are physical: EO sensors cannot see through cloud or darkness, which is why serious programmes pair them with synthetic-aperture radar for all-weather, day-night coverage.
