The air domain no longer belongs mainly to crewed aircraft. Recent conflicts have shown that a few hundred dollars of quadcopter, multiplied into a swarm, can hold a defended position at risk, and that the honest problem for most nations is no longer the strike package but the mass of small, cheap, uncrewed threats crossing the fence. Airspace, fixed sites and manoeuvre forces are all under a kind of pressure that older air-defence thinking was never priced for.
The capabilities gathered here are built for that fight from both sides. On defence, a layered counter-UAS chain runs from detection radar and manpack sensors through electronic and kinetic defeat, including intercept drones and counter-swarm pods, because a single-layer answer fails the moment the threat adapts. On the offensive side sit attack, ISR and loitering-munition platforms, low-observable airframes and the autonomous command and control that ties a formation together. A maker that builds the threat understands how to defeat it, and one that builds the defence understands what survives contact.
Aircraft alone are not capability, though, and this is where turnkey foreign delivery tends to disappoint. Simulator-to-live training and a certification pipeline turn airframes into crews who can fly and sustain them in region, and every line is represented only once classification and the end-user-certificate chain are confirmed. The buyer operates under its own rules of engagement, on its own schedule, with no foreign capital holding a veto over resupply.
