The eVTOL buys you the ability to fly from anywhere.

A runway or catapult-launched fixed-wing aircraft generally flies further and longer, because level flight on a wing is more efficient than an eVTOL's hybrid lift. What it needs is infrastructure: a strip, a catapult or a launcher, and a way to bring it back. This aircraft takes off and lands vertically from where the team stands, which is the whole point of the configuration. If the recce leg has to launch from a position with no airstrip, that convenience is not a nicety, it is the requirement.

Range and endurance are the honest cost of that convenience.
