Our AI X-ray reel counter against Scienscope AXC-800 III, VisiConsult XRHCount and Creative Electron TruCount: where the numbers actually differ.

All four machines count SMT reels with AI off a radiograph, and three of the competitors publish 99.99% accuracy against our stated better than 99%. The buyer question is not the headline accuracy figure. It is who holds the counting software, who certifies the cabinet, and who you call when the source needs work.

In service, not experimental

This is a production-floor counter, not a lab prototype. The cabinet is AERB type-approved with multiple safety interlocks and an emergency stop, it counts up to four reels in under seven seconds at better than 99% accuracy down to 01005 parts, and it writes results straight into ERP and MES. The counting software and the cabinet come from the same team that supplies and supports it.

What the table means

On the counting numbers, this is a close race.

Scienscope quotes under two seconds a reel and 99.99% accuracy, VisiConsult quotes seven seconds a reel dropping to two with Quad Count, Creative Electron quotes under ten seconds and 99.99%. We state better than 99% for up to four reels in under seven seconds. Read honestly, four vendors sit within the same band, and the accuracy figures are all vendor claims measured on the vendor's own samples. The decisive test is a trial on your inventory, including the awkward packages: cut strips, ESD bags, sticks and trays that AI models handle unevenly. Anyone who tells you their brochure percentage will hold on your mixed stock has not run your stock.

The source and the software are the ownership questions.

A component counter is a sealed X-ray source, a detector, and a counting model. When the source ages or the model misreads a new package, you need the organisation that built both to answer. VisiConsult is candid that the XRHCount is installed by a regional partner and its brains sit in Germany. Scienscope and Creative Electron support from the United States. Our cabinet and its AI counting software come from one independent, non-aligned supplier, so the model can be retrained and the source serviced without routing the request through a distributor and a foreign export desk.

Certification is where a defence buyer separates the field.

Creative Electron publishes 0.5 µSv/h with live monitoring and VisiConsult publishes under 1 µSv/h at 10 cm. Both are credible self-declared leakage numbers. Our cabinet is AERB type-approved, which is a named regulator's approval rather than a measured value on a spec sheet. For a plant whose national authority recognises that approval, type approval shortens the path from delivery to a running line, and it is the kind of paperwork that decides a procurement long after the counting speed has stopped mattering.

Questions buyers ask

What is the best alternative to a Scienscope AXC-800 III or Creative Electron TruCount for counting SMT reels?

All three are strong. Scienscope quotes under two seconds a reel and a 20 MP internal barcode camera, Creative Electron quotes 99.99% down to 01005 with a 430 mm panel, and both support four 7 inch reels at once. Our counter matches the workflow, up to four reels in under seven seconds at better than 99% including 01005, with ERP, MES, barcode, label printing and API integration, and it ships as an AERB type-approved cabinet from an independent, non-aligned supplier that owns the counting software. If your regulator recognises AERB approval or you need the software owner reachable, that is the reason to pick it.

Is 99% counting accuracy good enough, or do I need the 99.99% the others quote?

Read the fine print. Scienscope, VisiConsult and Creative Electron quote 99.99% on their own reels under their own conditions; we state better than 99% including 01005 parts. The gap on a clean reel of one part number is tiny. The real variance shows on cut strips, ESD bags, sticks and trays, and no vendor reports accuracy on those in a brochure. Run a trial on the packages your line actually stocks and compare miscounts per hundred reels, not the headline percentage.

Which reel counter keeps our inventory data and its counting software under our control?

None of the competitor datasheets addresses data residency, and the XRHCount is explicitly installed by a regional partner with the software developed in Germany. Our counter integrates with ERP and MES through an API, and both the cabinet and the AI counting software come from one independent, non-aligned supplier, so inventory records stay in your systems and the model can be retrained locally rather than through a foreign vendor's change queue.

How many reels can it count at once and what is the largest reel?

Up to four reels of 178 mm each, with a maximum reel diameter of 400 mm. That matches Scienscope's one to four 7 inch reels and VisiConsult's Quad Count up to four, and it sits alongside Creative Electron's four 7 inch reels with support up to 17 inch. For high-mix stores the practical question is how many part numbers the AI recognises without manual training, which is worth confirming against your bill of materials in a trial.

Is this a fielded product or a prototype?

Fielded. It is an AERB type-approved production cabinet with safety interlocks and an emergency stop, counting up to four reels in under seven seconds at better than 99% and writing straight into ERP and MES. The figures quoted here are the delivered specification.

Does it need a specialist to run, and what maintenance does the X-ray source need?

It is designed for production staff after minutes of training, with a plug-and-play cabinet. The source is sealed with no routine maintenance and a long service life, which is the same class of sealed tube Scienscope rates at 50 kV and Creative Electron at 80 kV. The difference in practice is who services the source and updates the counting model, and here both come from the supplier that built the system.
