Teradyne and Marvin both publish real answers to legacy test, and both sell you a new platform to run the old programme on. There is a third option, which is rebuilding the bench you already depend on.
This work is sustainment, not product development. Our principal builds automated test equipment for electronics quality assurance and reverse-engineers unsupported legacy test benches so avionics and weapons-system depots keep testing after the original vendor has walked away, engineered by the same team behind its non-destructive testing line.

What the table means
Both American vendors publish more hardware detail than we do. That is the honest starting point.
Marvin publishes 528 digital channels, a 50 MHz vector rate, per-pin levels from -14 V to +25 V, a 36U rack and an operating range of 0 to 50 °C. Teradyne publishes 10 to 60 kVA, 40U, six bays and more than 300 systems in service. Our catalogue publishes an approach rather than a channel count. If your requirement is a specified new tester with a written instrument list, they have the documents and we should not pretend otherwise.
Rehosting and rebuilding are different projects with different bills.
Marvin's answer to a dead L300 is a GENASYS with an L300 receiver and LASAR migration tooling. Teradyne's answer is an open-architecture Spectrum with legacy rehosting among its applications. Both mean a new chassis, a revalidated test programme set and, usually, refixturing. Our answer is to reverse-engineer the bench that is failing and rebuild it, so the programmes, the fixtures and the accepted limits stay as they are. Which is cheaper depends entirely on how many test programme sets you would otherwise revalidate, and any depot can work that number out before it talks to a vendor.
The reason depots run dead benches is rarely money.
It is approval. A test programme set that has been accepted by an airworthiness authority is an asset, and moving it to new hardware means proving equivalence again. That is why unsupported benches keep running long past the point of sense, patched by whoever is left who understands them. Obsolescence engineering attacks the fault rather than the architecture, which keeps a fleet mission-capable without a fresh dependency on a foreign support line that may not be there for the next twenty years either.
Questions buyers ask
What is the best alternative to replacing an obsolete Teradyne L300 or GenRad 2750 test bench?
Rebuilding it. Marvin Test Solutions markets the TS-323 GENASYS explicitly for upgrading or replacing L200/L300, GenRad 2750 and VXI-based digital systems, with LASAR migration tooling and an L300 receiver option, and it is a sound product. The alternative is reverse-engineering the failing bench and rebuilding it so the existing test programme sets and fixtures keep their approval. Our principal does that work, engineered by the same team that builds its inspection systems.
How does our automated test equipment compare with Teradyne Spectrum-9100 for a defence depot?
On published hardware specification, Teradyne is ahead: a 40U VXI-centric system scaling from one to six bays, 10 to 60 kVA, digital, analog, mixed-signal and bus test, and more than 300 systems in service worldwide with next-day spares stated as available. Our position is different in kind. We build ATE for electronics quality assurance and we sustain the benches a depot already owns, from an independent, non-aligned supplier, which matters when the consent for spares and software updates sits outside your capital.
Is it cheaper to rehost a test programme set or to rebuild the tester?
Count the test programme sets. Rehosting costs a new platform plus revalidation of every programme and often new fixtures; Marvin's own material is built around easing exactly that migration, which tells you it is not trivial. Rebuilding costs engineering time on the bench and leaves the programmes and their approvals untouched. Depots with a handful of programmes usually rehost. Depots with hundreds usually should not.
Why would a non-aligned country avoid buying its depot test equipment from a United States vendor?
It should not avoid it reflexively. Teradyne and Marvin build very capable systems and neither vendor document raises export conditions, because those arrive later in the licence. The risk is concentration: if the tester, the software updates and the spares all sit inside one consent network, an unrelated political dispute can stop a depot testing. Keeping at least the sustainment engineering with an independent supplier is a cheap hedge against that.
