Why defence QA raises the bar

Defence quality assurance inspects the parts whose failure is least acceptable: munitions bodies, weapon components, airframe and vehicle structure. The NDT equipment behind that assurance must therefore be demonstrably fit for the standard, not plausibly fit for the brochure. Supplier evaluation is where that distinction is enforced.

Substantiation over specification

The first test is evidential: can the supplier demonstrate the equipment finding the defect classes your standard defines, in your materials, on representative parts? A supplier who offers a witnessed demonstration and reference installations is making a claim you can check. A workable framework scores four pillars: technical fit (methods, coverage and sensitivity against your standards), operational fit (throughput, facility requirements, operator skill demands), sustainment (training, calibration, spares and service commitment in-region), and governance (export-control clarity, documentation quality and the supplier's willingness to put claims in the contract).

The sustainment test decides

Most NDT procurements that disappoint do so years after acceptance, when calibration lapses, a specialist leaves or a part waits months for factory attention. Weight the evaluation accordingly: a supplier's demonstrated ability to train, certify, calibrate and service in your region for a decade is worth more than a marginal advantage on any instrument parameter.
