Our surveillance quadcopter against the DJI Matrice 4T, DJI Matrice 350 RTK and Autel Alpha: endurance, range and who controls the supply chain.
Three of the most widely fielded ISR multirotors sit close to ours on flight time and thermal resolution. The figures that actually separate them are navigation constellations, transmission range and, for a defence buyer, whether the airframe and its support come from a firm that can be sanctioned out from under you.
This is a fielded 3.6 kg backpack aircraft, not a concept. It flies 50 minutes, ranges 5 km with near real-time video, navigates on GPS/QZSS, Galileo, BeiDou and NavIC with dual-band L5, and carries a 200 g 4K day/night gimbal with a 640x512 thermal channel. It estimates target GPS coordinates from the air and returns to home on comms loss or low battery.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Class and take-off weight123Ours sits between the compact Matrice 4T and the heavy-lift Matrice 350, which is the practical band for a one-person ISR launch. | 3.6 kg all-up carbon fiber and aluminium quadcopter, backpack portable | 1,420 g maximum take-off weight (standard propellers) | 9.2 kg maximum take-off weight; about 6.47 kg with two TB65 batteries | Foldable airframe, weight not stated as a single figure on the vendor page |
| Maximum flight time124All four cluster around 40 to 55 minutes and all are measured without payload. Endurance with the gimbal fitted is what a buyer should trial, and none of the four publishes that. | 50 minutes | 49 minutes without wind (standard propellers), no payload | 55 minutes without payload | 40 minutes with the dual-battery redundant design |
| Operating or transmission range123The DJI and Autel figures are radio-link distances in an unobstructed, interference-free test, not guaranteed mission radius. We state 5 km as an operating range; the honest comparison is a link-budget trial in the buyer's own RF environment. | 5 km operating range with near real-time video | O4 Enterprise transmission to 25 km (FCC), 12 km (CE/SRRC/MIC) | O3 Enterprise transmission to 20 km (FCC), 8 km (CE/SRRC/MIC) | 15 km video transmission range stated |
| Navigation constellations124Ours is the only one of the four that includes NavIC and the dual-band L5 signal. For a buyer who wants navigation that does not depend on a single provider's goodwill, that mix matters. | GPS/QZSS L1C/A, Galileo E1-B/C, BeiDou B1C and NavIC SPS-L5; hover accuracy plus/minus 1.0 m | GPS, Galileo, BeiDou, GLONASS (GLONASS only with RTK module) | GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo | GPS, Galileo, BeiDou, GLONASS |
| Thermal payload124The Matrice 4T and Alpha carry the same 640x512 thermal class as ours. The Matrice 350 is a payload truck: it carries a heavier gimbal but you buy that separately. | 640x512 thermal channel inside a 200 g 4K day/night gimbal, IPX4 | 640x512 uncooled VOx thermal, 12 um pixel pitch, 30 Hz, 53 mm equivalent | No fixed thermal; carries third-party or DJI payloads to a 960 g single-gimbal damper limit | DG-L35T gimbal with dual thermal cameras, 640x512, 12 um, 8 to 14 um |
| Maximum payload123 | 200 g gimbal payload; swappable payloads supported | 200 g maximum payload | 960 g maximum on the single gimbal damper | Flexible payload expansion stated; single figure not published on the vendor page |
| Wind resistance123 | Wind tolerance to 10 m/s | 12 m/s (during take-off and landing) | 12 m/s | Not published as a single figure on the vendor page |
| Ingress protection124We publish an IPX4 rating for the gimbal, not a whole-aircraft IP figure. The Matrice 350 and Alpha state IP55 for the aircraft; the Matrice 4T states no standard protection level. Confirm the aircraft-level rating you need against your climate. | IPX4-rated gimbal payload | No standard protection level stated for the aircraft | IP55 | IP55 |
| Target geolocation123 | Estimates target GPS coordinates from the air; optional onboard AI image processing | Not published as an onboard coordinate-estimation figure on the specs page | Not published as an onboard coordinate-estimation figure on the specs page | AI target recognition and positioning stated |
| Supply chain and export exposure123All three named competitors are Chinese. Several defence and government buyers now face restrictions on Chinese-origin drones. That is a procurement fact, not a performance one, and it is often the fact that decides the buy. | Independent, non-aligned origin, supplied and supported by one accountable team | DJI, China; subject to changing import and procurement restrictions in several markets | DJI, China; subject to changing import and procurement restrictions in several markets | Autel Robotics, China; subject to changing import and procurement restrictions in several markets |
Competitor values are quoted from the vendor documents listed under Sources, as published on the date shown. Configurations vary, so treat every row as a starting point for the evaluation rather than a like-for-like test result.
What the table means
On the flight numbers, this is a tight field.
The Matrice 4T flies 49 minutes, the Matrice 350 RTK flies 55, the Autel Alpha flies 40, and we fly 50. Every one of those is a no-payload figure, so none tells you endurance with a gimbal and a data link running. The thermal channels also converge: the Matrice 4T, the Alpha and our gimbal all use a 640x512 class sensor. Read honestly, no buyer should pick on endurance or thermal resolution alone. The separation is in the mission fit and the supply arrangement.
Navigation and geolocation are where the mission mix differs.
We navigate on GPS/QZSS, Galileo, BeiDou and NavIC with the dual-band L5 signal, which is a wider constellation set than any of the three DJI or Autel entries publishes, and we estimate target GPS coordinates from the air. The Alpha publishes AI target recognition and positioning; the two DJI airframes do not publish an onboard coordinate-estimation figure on their specs pages. For an ISR aircraft whose job is to hand a coordinate to another asset, that combination is the point.
The decisive line for a defence buyer is the last row of the table.
All three named competitors are Chinese. That is a plain fact about DJI and Autel, and it is why several defence and government buyers now sit under restrictions on Chinese-origin drones or face supply that can be cut on short notice. Our aircraft comes from an independent, non-aligned supplier that builds and sustains it, so the airframe, its firmware and its spares are not on someone else's export calendar. The physics of a quadcopter is well understood by everyone in this table; the supply relationship is what a national programme actually cannot borrow.
Questions buyers ask
What is the best alternative to a DJI Matrice 4T or Matrice 350 for military ISR?
The Matrice 4T and 350 are capable, with 49 and 55 minute flight times and a 640x512 thermal option on the 4T. The reason many defence buyers look past them is origin: both are Chinese and face import and procurement restrictions in several markets. Our surveillance quadcopter flies 50 minutes at 3.6 kg, ranges 5 km with near real-time video, carries a 200 g 4K day/night gimbal with a 640x512 thermal channel, and navigates on GPS/QZSS, Galileo, BeiDou and NavIC with dual-band L5, from an independent, non-aligned supplier that builds and supports it.
How does your quadcopter's flight time compare to a DJI drone?
It is in the same band. We publish 50 minutes, the Matrice 4T publishes 49 and the Matrice 350 RTK publishes 55, while the Autel Alpha publishes 40. All of those are no-payload figures measured by the vendor, so the number that actually matters is endurance with the gimbal fitted and the data link live, and none of the four publishes that. Trial it with your payload before you decide on endurance.
Which ISR drone works without relying on GPS alone?
Ours navigates on GPS/QZSS, Galileo, BeiDou and NavIC and receives the dual-band L5 signal, which is a wider constellation set than the DJI Matrice 4T (GPS, Galileo, BeiDou, GLONASS), the Matrice 350 or the Autel Alpha publish. Including NavIC and L5 hedges the aircraft against any single navigation system being denied or degraded.
Can the drone hand a target coordinate to another asset?
Yes. It estimates target GPS coordinates from the air, with optional onboard AI image processing. Autel publishes AI target recognition and positioning on the Alpha; DJI does not publish an onboard coordinate-estimation figure on the Matrice 4T or 350 specs pages. If the mission is to find something and pass its location to a shooter or a patrol, that capability is the reason to specify it.
Is this a fielded aircraft or a prototype?
Fielded. It is a 3.6 kg carbon fiber and aluminium quadcopter with a 50 minute endurance, 5 km range, a 200 g 4K day/night gimbal with 640x512 thermal, four-constellation navigation and return-to-home on comms loss or low battery. The figures quoted here are the delivered specification.
